'Outraged' Costa Concordia survivors file lawsuit demanding $460 mln as compensation

London, Jan 29 (ANI): Six passengers travelling on the Costa Concordia cruise liner, that ran aground off the Italian coast nearly two weeks ago, are suing the ship's owner for 460 million dollars, days after the company offered each passenger just 14,400 dollars.

Attorneys for six passengers filed legal paperwork in Miami's federal court on Friday requesting 450 million dollars in punitive damages and 10 million dollars in compensatory damages.

According to Radar.online.com, the complaint said the survivors were "in terror of catastrophic injury, death, drowning, having been placed in a situation where common sense said the vessel was sinking but the orders from the crew were to return to their cabins."

On Thursday, a Peruvian crew member not only filed a suit in Chicago seeking 100 million dollars in damages, but also seeking class-action status to cover all crew and passengers, the report said.

The lawsuits came amid outrage at Costa Crociere SpA offering just 14,400 dollars in damages to 3,206 uninjured survivors aboard its cruise ship.

The deal proposed by the subsidiary of Miami-based Carnival Corp. also offered to reimburse those who fled the boat, including some who swam to shore, for the cost of the doomed cruise and any subsequent travel expenses. (ANI)
