Tue, 01 Jan 2008 IANS

New Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS) The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), known for supporting emerging talent in the country, has now extended its ambit to help young designers showcase their collections at international platforms.

Toward this end, emerging designers Rakesh Aggarwal and Nitin Bal Chauhan will participate in Armand Hadida's bi-annual Tranoi Fair Oct 2-5 in Paris, while Chauhan has already participated in the London Fashion Week Sep 14-29.

This apart, Samant Chauhan will showcase his creations at the Paris Ethical Show Oct 9-12, while Charu Parasher will be displaying at multiple fashion weeks and shows overseas, an FDCI statement Monday said.

'We have always provided support to young designers to showcase their creative brilliance at global platforms. The designers selected this time are known for their unbridled enthusiasm and creative ingenuity,' FDCI president Sunil Sethi said.

'We have been firm about promoting and encouraging talent and this is one such endeavour,' he added.

The Tranoi Fair will also see creations by Indian design stalwarts like Tarun Tahiliani, Ashish Soni, Varun Bahl and Manish Arora.

Speaking about his participation, Aggarwal stated: 'I am excited to participate at the Tranoi Fair and thankful to FDCI for their support. I look forward to do good business at Tranoi and make India proud.'

Said Nitin Bal Chauhan: 'With more and more Indian designers hitting the foreign turf, it is indeed the need of the hour to support, promote and help young designers gain exposure and momentum. FDCI has always believed in this philosophy and I am grateful that they continue to do so.'

'I am grateful to FDCI for recognizing my talent and supporting my efforts to put Indian fashion on the global map,' said Parashar of the Paris Ethical Show that gathers around 100 exhibitors from around the globe.

Said Samant Chauhan of his multiple fashion shows participation: 'From my very first show at Singapore to this dream ramp at Carrousel Du Louvre, Paris, FDCI has done all in its capacity and more for me. I am glad many more new designers are now able to get the same kind of encouragement and support, be it moral, financial or otherwise.'

In addition to this, 18 aspiring designers will debut at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) here Oct 15-19, thus getting an opportunity to kickstart their careers in the world of fashion.
