Chandigarh, Sept 28 (ANI): Punjab the land of riches has given birth to many successful sons. One such successful star is versatile actor Guggu Gill. Hailing from a remote village in south- west Punjab he made a mark for himself in Punjabi cinema.

Guggu Gill has made an immense contribution to Punjabi cinema and this is reflected in the popularity of his evergreen films like `putt jattan de' and `vidroh'.

His entry into films happened accidentally and he neither has a filmy background nor did he attend an acting school.

Gill, who is satisfied with his work, said, "People have given me a lot of love and appreciation and by virtue of this I have achieved success. The film industry has given me a lot and I am grateful to God and my fans.

While explaining his association with the name "Jat", Gill said that he hailed from a village, which had Jat majority. "I am happy that the characters which I have been playing in the films matches my real life. This is one of the reasons for my success. Actors have to work on the directions of the scriptwriter and the director. They make films targeting audiences in the rural Punjab. Once the word `Jat' got famous, a majority of films were made on the subject. That's how `Jat' got popular."

Gill is satisfied being an actor and always tries to play different characters in films. Talking of his latest films, Gill said, "I and my fellow actor Yograj Singh are doing a Punjabi action film called `Siyasat', in which we are playing a role that was widely appreciated earlier. I have six to seven films in the pipeline that would hit the cinema halls soon."

Good budget and good publicity naturally make the films a hit, said Gill, and added, "I am hopeful that Punjabi cinema will touch new heights in future." Sunil Sharma (ANI)
