BCCI files complaint against Lalit Modi

Chennai, Oct.13 (ANI): The Secretary of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), N. Srinivasan, has filed a police complaint here on Wednesday against sacked IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi on charges of criminal misappropriation of funds.

 

"There are many charges. So, the general body at the last Annual General Meeting (AGM) decided that a comprehensive police complaint must be launched against Mr. Modi for various acts, which attracted provisions of the Indian Penal Code. So, which is what we have done," said Srinivasan.

 

Commissioner of Police, Chennai, T. Rajendaran, confirmed the complaint.

 

"Mr. Srinivasan, President of BCCI, met me this morning and he has preferred a criminal complaint against Latit Modi for criminal appropriation for rupees 470 crores. The main charges are, the main charges pertaining to the media rights, free commercial time and security issues," said Rajendaran.

 

Rajendaran also said that the case has been registered and would not transfer to Mumbai.

 

The BCCI had given a show-cause notice to Modi in May this year, charging him with financial irregularities in the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tourney.

 

Modi was accused of committing a wide range of corruption allegations, including bribery and tax evasion, resulting in his suspension from the post of IPL commissioner in April. By Jayakumar(ANI)
