Tue, 01 Jan 2008 ANI

Panjim, Sept 23 (ANI): The police in Goa have stepped up security around all vital establishments and increased surveillance along the railway stations following revelations by arrested suspected militants in New Delhi that Goa was a likely target.

Police officials said that a red alert has been sounded against the possibility of a terror strike and a strict vigil is being maintained.

"We have already started compiling the data, insisting on CCTV cameras in the reception room. We are insisting for photo identity cards of each guest so as to have record of persons visiting the guest houses. Then we are having survey of tenant verification so that we have the record of all the strangers those who come to stay so we are prepared to counter this terrorism with all the adequate infrastructure," said Umesh Gaonker, Sub Divisional Police Officer.

Reports said that the police had received inputs from Kerala police about Northern-bound train likely having been laden with explosives.

Goa's beaches are thronged by tourists not only from India but from across the globe.

Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmadabad and Bengaluru were hit by serial blasts in recent months killing and injuring hundreds of people. (ANI)
