Meanwhile, in the Commonwealth Games Women's cycling competition, Australian women's team overcame high expectations to win gold.

Rochelle Gilmore of Australia won the race in 2 hours, 49 minutes and 30 seconds beating Elizabeth Armistead of England who in turn snatched the silver from Gilmore's teammate Chloe Hosking who was third place in the morning race staged over eight laps of a 14-km course.

The bikers raced across scenic empty streets enveloped in a high-security blanket that kept spectators away.

The race conducted in a fenced off and barricaded course had elaborate security including heli-borne assault teams, commando hit teams and quick reaction teams providing athletes foolproof security.

Reacting upon her today's success, Gilmore said, "It was a lot of pressure. There was a lot of positive energy, yes, but pressure that was on the road team to win a gold medal was pretty intense to live up to expectations of the track team. There had been lot of chances for the track team to win gold but we had only one chance for a gold medal. So the pressure was really on."

She, however, credited her entire team for today's win. (ANI)
