May 19: Rain is continuing to spoil the sporting event in the ongoing India’s tour of Bangladesh. After the rain disrupted ODI series recently, it is the turn of the test matches to get soaked a bit and deal with the drizzle.
On day two of the first Test against Bangladesh India could not resume batting due to rains. It has been raining in patches in Chittagong, overnight drizzles and early-morning rain has left the outfield in bad state.
So far it seems like the first session of the day two may be lost. Umpire Daryl Harper and Billy Doctrove are inspecting the ground conditions at regular intervals.
Earlier, India overcame the first-ball dismissal of opener Wasim Jaffer to pile up 295-3 on the opening day of the first Test against Bangladesh on Friday.
India was due to resume at their overnight score of 295-3, with Sachin Tendulkar unbeaten on 80 and Sourav Ganguly on 82.
Apart from Jaffer, the entire Indian batsman had a nice time with the bat. Half-centuries from Captain Rahul Dravid, Dinesh Karthick, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly frustrated the hosts on a bone-dry wicket at the Bir Sreshta stadium that offered no assistance to the bowlers.
The teams remained in their hotel as the ground staff, facing the laborious task of drying the muddy field, waited for the weather to relent.
Even on the first day a brief shower during the lunch break had already curtailed an hour from the yesterdays play. More rains have been forecasted over the weekend.
