Srinagar, Sept 20 (ANI): In Kashmir Valley, normal life came to a standstill for the second consecutive day on Saturday following a shutdown call given by separatists.
According to official sources, business establishments, government and semi-government offices, banks and other financial institutions as well as educational institutions remained closed while traffic remained off the roads in various districts.
Security forces patrolled the deserted streets in the city which along with Pattan area of Baramulla District, which witnessed violent demonstrations on Friday. At least 19 people, including seven security personnel, were injured in clashes at a dozen places in the Valley.
The clashes broke out shortly after Friday prayers when police along with CRPF used force to prevent protesters from marching on main roads.
Police fired teargas shells and used batons to chase away the stone-pelting youth at various places.
Reports stated that a complete shutdown was observed in Anantnag, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora and other tehsil and block headquarters across the Valley.
The shutdown call was given by the coordination committee of both factions of Hurriyat Conference in support of their demand for "self determination". (ANI)
