India to feature in Eurovision Song Contest's Asian avatar

London, Sept 19 (ANI): After taking Europe by storm, Eurovision Song Contest is set head towards Asia.

 

The Eurovision Song Contest is an annual competition held among active member countries of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

 

Each member country submits a song to be performed on live television and then casts votes for the other countries' songs to determine the most popular song in the competition.

 

The competition is set to involve singers from 15 Asian countries, including India and China, Pakistan.

 

Other countries involved in the contest are Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan, and the Philippines.

 

Cambodia, South Korea, Taiwan, Laos, Macau, Hong Kong and Singapore are also set to participate.

 

Asiavision Song Contest organisers say "the universal language of music will help bring people closer together".

 

Andreas Gerlach, head of Asiavision, the company which has purchased the Eurovision Song Contest format for Asia, said it was "highly suited" to the region.

 

"Its people love popular music and have strong national pride. The song contest is a friendly competition between cultures," BBC quoted him, as saying. (ANI)
