New Delhi, Sep 1 (ANI): Amid the plethora of allegations of large scams involving the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, the activists of the Shiromani Akali Dal initiated a 'Delhi Cleaning Campaign' here on Wednesday ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
"As per our campaign, we will go to other areas in the city which require immediate cleaning. However, I believe entire Delhi requires cleaning. We want people to support us and be with us during this campaign. We all are planning to go everywhere," said Harmohinder Kaur Anand, an activist of the Shiromani Akali Dal.
"We will be doing cleaning. Our motto is that we have to make Delhi clean," he added.
Another Shiromani Akali Dal worker Jasjeet Singh said the campaign is an initiative to spread the message that everyone needs to contribute to making Delhi clean.
"We have come here along with all the activists of Shiromani Akali Dal, Delhi-UK. We want to give a nice message to the people of our country that this is our country and we should clean it. By initiating this campaign from today, we are hoping that the citizens of entire Delhi would obey this and would keep entire city clean, not just the areas near stadiums," said Jasjeet Singh.
"It's good if you keep your neighbourhood clean, as it will not cause any diseases. The people or activists of opposition parties who are trying to harm the image of our government and the country, we want to give them a message that it's not Games of any party," he added.
The 2010 Commonwealth Games is India's biggest sporting event since the 1982 Asian Games.
India is expecting about two million tourists in New Delhi for the Games, as well as about 10,000 athletes from 71 teams representing 54 Commonwealth member states. (ANI)
