Indians in Britain too responsible for female foeticide, a study

Dec 03: It’s really astonishing knowing that some weird things did not give shame to those people who leave the legacy of their ill deeds behind them.

It is indeed an eye-opener for people like me who take education as a remedy for all sorrow.

In a recent study conducted by Oxford University indicates that Indian women in UK are aborting their daughter to select the other sex.

The report gives a data of missing girls from the birth statistics in England and Wales since 1990 which stands at 1,500.

Dr Sylvie Dubuc conducted the study on birth rates of different ethnic groups in England and Wales; she studies human geography and population at Oxford University.

She said, “According to my calculation around 1,500 girls are missing. Its significant compared to the total number of births.” She also found abnormal increase in boys’ proportion over time and clearly pointed that it is because of sex selective method adopted by Indian born mother in Britain.

''The most probable explanation seems to be sex selective abortion by a minority of mothers born in India,'' she added.

Guarded by their cultural beliefs Indian continues to hold the burden on their head that a female is a curse. The patriarchal societies accord less and less respect to women.

Sex selective abortion which is banned in India since more than a decade become ridiculous when it was found that some people who did not get any access to abortion turn back to India to get the abortion done.

Though age old practices were there to kill a girl child, people with the advancement in technological field snatch all the rights of a girl before she is born.

This also put a question mark on various anti-female foeticide campaigns in India where the sex ratio is dwindling at greater pace.
