Nepal's Maoists finalize proposal for consensus

Kathmandu, Sat, 10 Jul 2010 ANI

Kathmandu, July 10 (ANI): Nepal's main opposition party - the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (UCPN-M) - is reported to have finalized its proposal for national consensus to complete the peace process and constitution drafting successfully.

A Xinhua report said that party officials met here to give final shape to the document prepared by party chairman Prachanda, including points agreed upon by the leaders.

UCPN-M Vice Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha told reporters, the meeting had finalized the basis for consensus for a national consensus government with action plans for army integration, rehabilitation, dissolving the paramilitary structure of its youth wing, Young Communist League (YCL), and forming a commission on forced disappearances.

The party has not made public the document of consensus, saying it would do so only after the meeting of the three parties, UCPN-M, the Communist Party Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist and Nepali Congress, later Saturday afternoon.

The consensus document has been prepared after other parties said they would not accept a UCPN-M-led government unless the party came up with a clear and time-bound strategy for army integration, rehabilitation, transformation of YCL and return of seized property. (ANI)
