Prachanda fears survival of Maoist led Govt.

Tue, 01 Jan 2008 ANI

Kathmandu, Sept 5 (ANI): Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Friday claimed that the country would be a 'failed state' if the Maoist-led government is brought down prematurely.

Dahal claimed some people are trying to overthrow the government and that such an attempt would be futile.

However, Dahal declined to disclose the names of those bidding to bring down the government within three months of its birth.

According to the Kantipur, Dahal was quoted as saying to a delegation of journalists today, "There is a danger that Nepal could become a 'failed state'. That is why I would like to urge the journalists to realise it," and added, "As there are some people bidding to overthrow the government within three to six months."

Meanwhile, the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist central committee members today urged Dahal not to reach any agreement that would be against the country's interest during his upcoming visit to India.

In a meeting held at the PM's Residence at Baluwatar, the central committee members asked Dahal to put forward a proposal of scrapping all 'lopsided' treaties with India.

The members also advised the PM to focus on the nation's interests during talks with his Indian counterpart. (ANI)
