Peshawar, Sun, 28 Feb 2010 ANI

Peshawar, Feb.28 (ANI): The death toll in sectarian violence in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province' (NWFP) Dera Ismail Khan region has reached six as four more people succumbed to their injuries in hospital on Sunday.

Severe clashes between two sects had erupted after gunshots were fired at a holy procession marking the birth of the Holy Prophet on Saturday.

One person was killed in the firing while dozen others were received in violence that followed the gun attack.

Curfew was imposed in the region soon after the violence and over 100 people were suspected in the raids and combing operations that followed.

The situation in the region is still tense in the town which has been hit frequently by sectarian violence and extremist attacks in the recent past.

Meanwhile, local security officials are yet to find out the perpetrators of the attack, and said that investigations were on.

"We cannot immediately blame any group, we are investigating," The Dawn quoted a local police chief, as saying. (ANI)
