Chappell appointed head coach at Australian Centre for Excellence

Tue, 01 Jan 2008 ANI

Melbourne, Sept.3 (ANI): Former Australian captain Greg Chappell has been appointed head coach at the Australian Centre of Excellence.

According to The Australian, Chappell was named today by Cricket Australia (CA) to oversee the development of the country's emerging players for the next three years.

CA had yet to appoint a permanent head coach at the centre following Tim Nielsen's posting as Australian coach last year.

Former Tasmanian coach Brian McFadyen has spent about 18 months at the centre as interim coach.

Chappell, 60, previously coached South Australia and had a tumultuous two years in India, where he quit after the side was knocked out of last year's World Cup.

He then worked at the Rajasthan Cricket Association's Centre of Excellence, and is expected to start in his new role later this year.

Chappell has played 87 Tests for 7,110 runs from 1970-84, and captained his country 48 times. (ANI)
