Pak minister wants mobile phone use to be limited to 'special' govt. officials!

Lahore, Thu, 04 Feb 2010 ANI

Lahore, Feb.4 (ANI): Provincial Minister for commerce, investment and prisons Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor has suggested banning mobile phones in the country, as he believes that only influential people such as government officials are apt to use the cellular phone services.

Ghafoor said mobile phones should only be with people of "special status", primarily a select group of government officials.

"On one hand, Pakistan was considered to be a poverty-hit nation, yet on the other hand, even men on bicycles were using mobile phones," The Daily Times quoted Ghafoor, as saying.

He particularly criticised youngsters and college going students for "giving billions of rupees to Christian and Jewish companies through the mobile phone business."

It may be noted that the Punjab Assembly had recently passed a resolution to ban late night special tariff rates with an aim to maintain 'moral and social values in the society'. (ANI)
