Relief pours into flood-affected Bihar as situation remains grim

Madhepura/ Jammu/Bangalore, Sep 2 (ANI): Relief continues to pour in for flood ravaged Bihar even as its impact shows no signs of abating.

 

Madhepura district is said to be one of the worst flood-hit areas of the state.

 

People continue to march to safer destinations."We left our place hurriedly as floodwater started gushing inside our houses and soon it rose waist-level. We could not collect even some food articles while fleeing," said Satya Prakash Kumar, a victim.

 

In Jammu, scores of scouts and guides thronged the local railway station to do their bit for the people of Bihar. They collected clothes and collected relief material for the flood victims.

 

"Whatever amount, be it 100, 1000 rupees or even one rupee, is useful the people in need. Every contribution is significant in getting them food and for their rehabilitation. Therefore, everyone should contribute towards it," said Shivom Gulati, a scout.

 

Karnataka too announced that it would help the Bihar flood victims.

 

"We have decided to help them to the extent of 10 crores rupees in cash assistance and 10 tonnes of milk powder, especially for the children," said V. S. Acharya, State Home Minister.

 

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi recently announced 228 million US dollars in aid for rescue and recovery efforts. (ANI)
