Nov 13: Pakistan’s rusty wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal‘s place in the final eleven for the next two matches of the ongoing Indo-Pak series is in tight spot after uncapped Sarfraz Ahmed has been summoned to India as reinforcement following a finger injury to Akmal during the third One-day international in Kanpur on Sunday.
However, Pakistan team management have not ruled out struggling wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal for the remaining two one-dayers, despite his finger injury which has been aggravated during the tournament.
Akmal has had a harrowing time behind the stumps so far in the series in India. He has dropped four catches in three matches, including a let off to Sourav Ganguly off the first ball in the last ODI in Kanpur. Akmal has been going through this lean patch for the last 18 months.
"He had some practice in the nets on Monday and is also getting treatment for his injury. So we are not ruling him out completely for the last two games," Pakistan team manager Talat Ali said.
"We will have choice if Kamran is not able to make a proper recovery," he further added.
Meanwhile, it’s a good chance for young Sarfraz if he gets the nod for the fourth ODI ahead of Akmal. Sarfraz has made a good name in domestic cricket in a very little time. He also led the Pakistan Under-19 team to World Cup victory in Sri Lanka last year.
He has been doing consistently well and performed a great deal against touring Australia ‘A’ in September. The mushrooming player joined Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) this season and captured 15 victims behind the wickets in three matches and came out with couple of half-century knocks that drew the attention of the selectors.
