Murray may skip Davis Cup to give youngsters a chance

London, Mon, 04 Jan 2010 ANI

London, Jan. 4 (ANI): British tennis star Andy Murray may not participate in the Davis Cup this yeas as he wants to give a chance to the younger lot in the country to win the cup.

"You've got to do what is right for your tennis - it's time for the guys to get used to winning in the Davis Cup. That period just before Indian Wells and Miami is very important for me," The Sun quoted Murray, as saying.

In his absence, the likes of world No 261 Dan Evans, world No 270 James Ward and world No 312 Jamie Baker are likely to compete for the two singles berths.

The world No 4 is missing the tie against Lithuania in March.

"I have a lot of ranking points to defend. Playing on clay away in Lithuania before travelling over to California is not the best preparation," he said.

Murray said he would concentrate on his quest for a Grand Slam title and the Masters series, while insisting that he is not abandoning his country.

"My focus in 2010 is the Masters events and improving my record in the grand slams. I'm always available for my country," he added.

Murray will consult with the LTA before each match, but with the next tie, win or lose in Lithuania, straight after Wimbledon, he will miss the entire year. (ANI)
