Oct 29: Indian marksman Ronjan Sodhi had to content with a silver medal after narrowly missing the gold in the tie-shoot out in the double trap event. Hu Binuyan of China claimed the gold after he and Ronjan were tied at an identical score of 187 in the Asian clay shooting championship in Manila on Sunday.
Binuyan who got bronze behind Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore at the Athens Olympics, walked away with the 2-1 honour in the shoot-off. Meanwhile Rathore who has already got an Olympic quota place didn’t make it to the final finishing ninth with a total of 134 following rounds of 44, 47 and 43.
Ronjan had shot rounds of 45, 49 and 47 in the beginning. Sodhi’s recent good form will certainly give a major boost to Ronjan’s morale as he is all set to clinch the elusive Olympic quota place in the last chance, at the Asian Championship scheduled in Kuwait in December.
The 27-year-old Ronjan won the World Cup bronze at Santo Domingo earlier in the season and matched that total with 187 out of 200. He came up with some extraordinary performance in the final with a 46 out of 50 to get closer to the Chinese who was leading with four points to him before the final.
The Indian team won the bronze medal in the team category after scoring 400 out of 450 rounds behind China and Kuwait. China won the gold with 419 while Kuwait claimed silver with 404 points.
