New Delhi, Aug 21 (ANI): The Union Cabinet today gave its clearance for the implementation of the Unorganized Sector Workers' Social Security Bill 2008.
The Cabinet made the necessary official amendments in the Unorganized Sector Workers' Social Security Bill 2007, which is pending in the Rajya Sabha.
This approval will facilitate the formulation of social security schemes for workers in the unorganized sector.
Besides providing legislative backing to all social security schemes like the 'Aaam Admi Bima Yojana', National Old Age Pension Scheme and the Health Insurance Scheme, the Unorganised Sector Workers' Social Security Bill 2007 aims to provide for the welfare of around ninety percent of the workers of India who have neither formal social security cover nor regulation over conditions of work.
It identifies the unorganised sector and empowers the State and the Central Governments to adopt suitable schemes with the help of advisory boards created at the central and state levels.
While briefly providing for how these schemes would be funded, it also provides for the registration of all unorganised workers. (ANI)
