Lohian (Punjab), Aug 19 (ANI): People in Lohian region of Punjab today began to plug the 150-feet deep fissure on Dhussi dam over the Satluj river by putting in thousands of sand bags.

The breach appeared in the early hours of August 16 due to incessant rains.

Locals villagers, Railway Police Force, employees of the Drainage Department andunjab police gathered to plug the fissure at the dam. Mesh with iron wires is being used to fix the sand bags to plug the breach.

Meanwhile, flood situation continues to remain grim in Punjab as several villages got submerged, rendering thousands homeless.

The situation was further aggravated by the 150-feet deep fissure developed in one of the embankments of the Dhussi dam on August 16.

Heavy monsoon rains in Himachal Pradesh as well as in Punjab has contributed to the rising water level in the rivers and dams causing flood in the state.
