Death toll in Mangalore bus accident rises to 11

Mangalore, Aug 14 (ANI): The death toll in the Mangalore school bus accident that took place today has risen to 11.

 

According to police sources, another 18 were missing after a bus they were travelling in fell into the Palguni River near Mangalore.

 

The entire district administration is at the site of accident and rescue operations are going on.

 

The team, however, is facing a lot of trouble due to the heavy rainfall that has been lashing the area since past two days.

 

The accident took place in the early hours of morning when the driver of the mini bus carrying school children lost control over the vehicle due to heavy water logging on the road and the bus skidded down the slope.

 

The Karnataka Government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs one lakh to the family of the dead.

 

Around 30 children were travelling in the bus when the mishap took place. (ANI)
