Victoria safe despite Indian TV show claims, says its Premier

Melbourne, Tue, 28 Jul 2009 ANI

Melbourne, July 28 (ANI): Victoria Premier John Brumby has defended his state as one of the safest places in the world after an accusatory program aired on Indian television.

The "Yes, it's Racism" program was shown on Indian news channel Times Now yesterday.

The show covered violence and education scams against Indian students in Australia.

Premier Brumby said he would make it his business to see the program.

"We're determined to make sure that we portray the right message and the right image about being educated in our state," he told reporters today.

"The fact of the matter is that we live in one of the safest places anywhere in the world, that's what the objective statistics show," The Herald Sun quoted him, as saying.

Brumby said all private education providers were being reviewed and if they were not up to scratch they would be deregistered.

He said he was looking forward to a meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister S. M. Krishna in Melbourne on August 9. (ANI)
