Thirteen killed in Peshawar bomb blast

Tue, 01 Jan 2008 ANI

Peshawar, Aug.12 (ANI): At least 13 people were killed in a bomb attack on an Air Force bus here on Tuesday.

Security officials said that the blast occurred near the Badaber Air Force Base on the outskirts of the city.

They said the bomb was planted on a bridge and went off as the vehicle drove over it.

Pakistan has experienced a wave of militant violence since July last year after the Special Operations attack on the Lal Masjid in Islamabad. Hundreds of people have been killed in these incidents, including many members of the security forces. Violence subsided after a new coalition governmentwas formed after the February elections and it decided to negotiate with the militants.

The lull in violence was, however, shortlived. Militants stepped up their attacks after Pakistan Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud suspended his talks with the government in June.(ANI)
