Pak diplomats, analysts welcome NAM joint communique

Islamabad, Fri, 17 Jul 2009 ANI

Islamabad, July 17 (ANI): Former Pakistani diplomats and political analysts have expressed satisfaction over the joint communiqué issued by India and Pakistan after their meeting on the sidelines of the XVth NAM summit.

Diplomats opined that the restoration of peace process is only possible through comprehensive dialogue.

"The restoration of the dialogue process is a strategic decision in favour of peace, and I, view it with satisfaction," former Foreign Secretary Tanvir Ahmad Khan said.

Khan said both nations would have to work together to counter the threats facing the region.

"It is the question of talking up each basket of issues and try to move forward with great resolve," the Daily Times quoted him, as saying.

Former Ambassador Mushtaq Mehr also welcomed Pakistan's resolve to cooperate with India on the issue of terrorism.

Terming the talks as 'a new beginning', political analyst Dr Rasul Bux Raees said it has the possibility to help both countries resolve some of their contentious issues.

"Due to the flexibility and compromise shown by Pakistan, India will be in a better position to review the situation and start the process," Raees added. (ANI)
