Why chocolate bar is just as good as a cereal one

London, Aug 10 (ANI): They say healthy foods are a good option for dieters, but a new list by a British newspaper has debunked this notion by suggesting that cereal bars can be as high in sugar as chocolate ones.

The Daily Mail has come up with a list that debunks various notions about healthy eating items.

According to the newspaper, it's always good to choose a cereal bar over a chocolate one. However, according to Anna Denny, a nutrition scientist with the British Nutrition Foundation, cereal bars can be high in sugar and fat, and many have a lot of dried fruit.

If the bar contains nuts, dried fruit and chocolate chips, it can be quite high in calories. It is believed that a label that reads low or reduced fat will always be healthy.

However, Anna Denny, has said that this is not always the case.

According to the EU Nutrition and Health regulations, low-fat products must contain less than 3g of fat per 100g. However, for reduced fat there are no rules. Another problem is that the original versions of some foods, such as cheese, can be very high in fat.

So even if, as a comparative term, they are accurately described as reduced fat, they can still contain high amounts.

Also, it is believed that dried fruit is low in calories and is therefore a healthy snack. But it is not the case. Dried fruit is fresh fruit with all its water content-removed. Since this makes it pure fruit sugar, it can be high in calories.

They say vegetarian cheese is a healthier option than regular cheese. However, this doesn't hold true in all cases.

Therefore, Helen Stracey, a registered dietician with Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust says that you should always check the label.Vegetarian cheese is suitable for vegetarians because it does not use animal-based rennet. However, this does not affect its fat content or its calories.

It is also a myth that organic food is better for humans than the non-organic alternatives.

However, according to Anna Denny, there is still no conclusive evidence to suggest that organic food is in any way more nutritious. Eating organic is more of a lifestyle choice than a health one and relates to how the food is farmed. (ANI)
