SEP 29: Former Indian skipper Ravi Shastri, who was appointed chairman of the National Cricket Academy yesterday by the Board of Control for Cricket in India in its annual general meeting, has signaled green for the post, which has been lying vacant after Kapil Dev was sacked from the said post for signing up with rebel Indian Cricket League.

Shastri, who agreed in principle to take up the assignment, sought a day or two to confirm his acceptance to the BCCI to commit himself to the high-profile job.

Ravi Shastri has given his consent to be the Chairman of the National Cricket Academy (NCA). “Shastri has accepted the offer after arriving on Friday from Dubai and will be in Bangalore for the opening Future Cup match between India and Australia,” said Prof. Ratnakar Shetty, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), BCCI.

Shastri is likely to visit the NCA facility and also meet Brijesh Patel, Secretary, KSCA to decide the future course of the academy. Shastri takes over the post from Ajay Shirke, who was made acting chairman of the academy as a stopgap arrangement after Kapil Dev.

The BCCI is willing to provide leeway to Shastri so that he can work as per his own will and could draw his own schedule to work with the boys in Bangalore and give quality time to the trainees there. Shastri will be busy with his television commitments, as the Indian team is scheduled to play four Tests and a tri-series in Australia from December to March 2008.

When asked if Shastri's media commitments would leave him with time for the NCA, BCCI treasurer N Srinivasan said, "It's not a full-time post. There is Shivlal Yadav also for the support, who works in the capacity of Director coaching in the academy."

Ravi Shastri, along with Sunil Gavaskar, has been the ambassador’s of Indian cricket through ESPN-STAR Sports across the World, since his retirement from international cricket. He was India’s cricket manager in Bangladesh, as a temporary solution after the exit of Greg Chappell, which he later left due to his prior media commitments.

Sure it is a compatetive world, but it is surprising how celebrities will step willingly into each other's shoes with little heed to what has happened to their predessor can happen to them aswell.
Kapil Dev looms higher all the cricketing heros of the country and Ravi Shastri not far but behind.
BCCI has no respect for either one or the sport or the dignity of the country. If BCCI could sack Kapil for promoting cricket in India, Ravi should never forget they could do the same to him.

Its time the Heros came together and formed a TEAM against HIGHHANDED HUMILIATION
