Verdict out! HC allows women to enter inner sanctum of Haji Ali

Mumbai, Aug 26 (ANI): An agitation by a small group of women finally tested success after the Bombay High Court on Friday allowed women to enter the inner sanctum of the Haji Ali dargah. The High Court observed that the ban imposed on the entry of women is contrary to the fundamental rights of a person as provided in the Constitution. Leading activist in the Haji Ali Dargah case, Feroze Mithiborwala said it is a victory for the women fraternity. Petitioner's lawyer Raju More, on the other hand, said the court has allowed the entry of women upholding the Constitution. Earlier a PIL was filed by Noorjehan Niaz and Zakia Soman of the Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan, seeking entry in the inner sanctum of the dargah. The petitioners argued that women were allowed to enter the dargah before 2012.
