Soldiers killed in Kashmir encounter laid to rest in Punjab

Ludhiana/ Amritsar, Oct 07 (ANI): In a befitting farewell to soldiers who were killed in an encounter with militants in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, their mortal remains were put to rest with full state honours in Punjab. Soldier Surinder Singh and Lance Naik Gurdev Singh were cremated in their respective hometowns, in Ludhiana and Amritsar cities respectively, and each was accorded a guard of honour. Surinder and Gurdev were among the four soldiers who were killed in a gun battle with militants in Handwara town on Monday. The battle was on since Sunday. Grief stricken mother of Surinder, Binder Singh said her son was always keen to join the army and serve the nation. Surinder was due to get married on November 27 and the invitations were already sent out to family and friends. Meanwhile, in Amritsar, Gurdev's family too tried hard to come to terms with the loss.
