Shopkeeper offers onions to customers who buy Rakhi threads in Allahabad

Allahabad, Aug 29 (ANI): As onion prices soar, a shop in Allahabad city drew customers by offering the expensive vegetable free with the purchase of sacred rakhi threads on the occasion of sibling festival or 'Raksha Bandhan'. Rakhi is a symbolic holy thread a sister ties ceremoniously on the wrist of her brother as a mark of revered bondage between them. Raksha Bandhan is a festive occasion that falls on the full moon day and is celebrated by Hindus, almost throughout India. Customers who saw the advertisement were immediately drawn to the shop. Onion prices have hit 80 rupees in India as scant monsoon rain delays plantings, leading to protests across cities. In 2013, prices hit around 100 rupees.
