School in Nepal collects relief material for quake victims
Baluwatar, May 03 (ANI): A primary school in Nepal has taken the initiative to collect relief material for the survivors of a massive earthquake last weekend that left the Himalayan nation in tatters. Afsana Rana, the principal of Pineridge Academy, an international child and environment development centre, wrote to the parents of students enrolled in her school seeking donations. At least 7,040 people have died and more than 14,123 injured in the quake, measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale, the worst to hit the country in 81 years. According to the United Nations, 600,000 houses have been either destroyed or damaged. It said that eight million people have been affected, with at least two million in need of tents, water, food and medicines over the next three months. Taking a step in this direction, Pineridge Academy in Baluwatar ward in Kathmandu is encouraging students and their parents to come forward and help the victims.
