Rain, hailstorm damage wheat crops in Uttar Pradesh
Deoria, Apr 1 (ANI): Farmers in Uttar Pradesh have sought help from the state government as the unseasonal rains and hailstorm have damaged acres of wheat crops. The most vulnerable-wheat-was sowed in the first week of November and was ready for harvest. But the untimely rains are most likely to bring down the output. The Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh received rainfall twice in a week, resulting in destruction of the wheat crops. Meanwhile, District Magistrate of Deoria, Sharad Kumar, said they were working out a way to help the farmers. Unseasonal storms have badly damaged the winter crop in large parts of the fertile northern plains, most likely contributing to the suicides. This year, March has been the wettest month in more than a century, wrecking millions of hectares of winter crops.
