Police arrest five Maoists in Bihar

Patna, April 21 (ANI): Police arrested five Maoists after a gun battle in Bihar, said a senior officer. Acting on a tip-off, the security forces raided a village in Muzaffarpur district in search of scores of Maoists. The extremists, however, tried to escape by firing on the security forces, which led to retaliation. Additional Director General of Police, Gupteshwar Pandey, said they were verifying the antecedents of three more arrested people. The Maoists seek the violent overthrow of the Indian state and have fought authorities for decades, particularly in rural areas of central and eastern India where they enjoy some support.
