Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival champions gay rights in India

Mumbai, May 29 (ANI): Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival kicks off, championing the cause of gay rights in entertainment capital Mumbai. The annual event, considered to be South Asia’s biggest queer film festival, is currently in its sixth edition. The five-day festival, which began on Wednesday, would screen 180 films from 44 countries ranging from queer classics like ‘The Adventures of Priscilla’ and ‘Queen of The Desert’ (1994) to contemporary films at three venues in Mumbai. Bollywood actress Celina Jaitley, also the ambassador of the festival since its inception in 2010, said that it provides a great platform to create awareness about the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community. Jaitley added that she believes in the festival and the cause it stands for. Twenty one Indian films would be screened at the festival which is India’s only mainstream LGBT film festival.
