Eight Maoist rebels arrested with explosives in Bihar amid ongoing polls

Gaya, Oct 13 (ANI): Police arrested eight Maoist rebels from across Gaya city of India’s eastern Bihar state on Monday (October 12) and recovered a huge cache of explosives and ammunition from them. Among those arrested is a wanted Maoist rebel, identified as Vijay Yadav, who was supplying explosives to insurgent group, Communist Party of India (Maoist). Gaya Senior Superintendent of Police, Manu Maharaaj, said that the arrests were made under a special campaign launched by the city police ahead of the assembly elections in Bihar. Maharaaj added that pamphlets appealing locals to boycott the assembly elections were also recovered from the rebels among other things. Among things recovered from the rebels were material used in making cane bombs and cylinder bombs; mobile phones, laptops; tiffin boxes and axes et cetera. The arrests and recovery of explosives assumes significance in the backdrop of the ongoing assembly elections in the state. Maharaaj said that the explosives were meant for disrupting the elections and for attacking police contingents. Polling was held in 49 constituencies of Bihar on Monday including Jamui, Banka, Lakhisarai, Bhagalpur, Nawada and Munger, some of which are Maoist-infested districts.
