AAI launches independent air cargo, logistics subsidiary

New Delhi, Oct 26 (ANI): The Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Tuesday launched, a wholly-owned subsidiary, AAI Cargo Logistics and Allied Services Company Ltd (AAICLAS), with a vision to become one of the foremost integrated logistics network operators in the country. The new entity will provide ground handling, documentation, transport services for carriage of bonded and non-bonded cargo and screening services at airports in India and abroad. Giving details, AAI Chairman Guruprasad Mohapatra said the airports’ cargo department has been de-merged and corporatised into a functionally and administratively independent organisation. Revenues from Air cargo helps airlines subsidised the cost of passenger tickets and the launch of AAICLAS will promote growth by way of cost reduction, and better inter-ministerial coordination. The new subsidiary will be allowed to develop its own distinct culture, organisation structure and business model.
