Jaya Bachchan shared screen with all famous actors of 60s and 70s be it Dharmendra or Jeetendra or Amitabh or Sanjeev Kumar or Rajesh Khanna.

She made her debut with Mahangar in 1963 directed by Satyajit Ray but her full-fledged role came with Guddi in 1971. This film directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee made her a superstar over night. She starred opposite Dharmendra in this film.

After this film she went on to act in many super hits like Parichay (1972), Uphaar (1971), Koshish (1972), Zanjeer (1973), Abhimaan (1973), Kora Kagaz (1974) and many others.

She was seen first time with Amitabh Bachchan in the film Bansi Birju, which came in year 1972. But their pair made it big with 1973 release Zanjeer.

Zanjeer was the film that established Amitabh in the film industry and it was the film, which brought two of them close to each other.

She then appeared alongside Amitabh in films like as Chupke Chupke (1975), Mili (1975) and Sholay (1975).

Jaya was a versatile actor who did every type of role from Girl next door to glamorous girl to a handicapped girl to a negative role as well.

Her film with Sanjeev Kumar, Koshish in which she played the role of a deaf eared her accolades from critics and viewers both.

Jaya also played a negative character in Anamika that came in the year 1973.

Silsila that came in the year 1981 was the last film in which she acted as a lead role.

Later Jaya changed her path as politician. She was elected as a Rajya Sabha member from Samajwadi Party in February 2010 and was re-elected in 2012.

Jaya Bachchan was born as Jaya Bhaduri on 9 April 1948 to Indira and Taroon Kumar Bhaduri in Jabalpur.

Jaya married Amitabh Bachchan on 3 June 1973. They have two children Shweta Bachchan Nanda and Abhishek Bachchan.

She studied acting from FTII (Film and Television Institute of India) completing her graduation. Jaya is now an alumni in the same college.

In 1992, Government of India awarded Jaya with the Padma Shri.
