After English left, the institute was renamed National Dairy Research Institute. Later National Dairy Research Institute was shifted to its present location in Karnal in India. The NDRI has regional centers in south and East India. In the year 1970 the NDRI was brought under the ICAR and better autonomy in research and management was given to the institute.
