Cambodia News: This beautiful south-Asian country borders Thailand to its west and Laos to its east while Vietnam sits to its south. The present Cambodia is a successor state of the powerful Khmer Empire ruled by Hindu and Buddhist kings. Cambodia has a bloody and troubling past during which millions of innocent people were killed during the totalitarian regime of the Khmer Rouge under their leader Pol Pot who seized power in 1975. The historical city of Phnom Penh is the capital and the largest city of Cambodia. However, Cambodia is best known for the sprawling Angkor Wat temple at Angkor built in the 12th Century for the king Suryavarman II. The temple has multi-religious significance being the abode of Hindu god Vishnu and also of significance for Buddhists.
