Nitish Kumar needs to clarify 'Special Status' demand: Congress

New Delhi, Fri, 15 May 2009 ANI

New Delhi, May 15 (ANI): Responding to the demand of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar that he will support that coalition which gives 'Special Status' to his state, the Congress has asked Kumar to clarify what he means by 'Special Status'.

"Mr. Nitish Kumar needs to tell us what he means by 'Special Status' for Bihar. So far, the Centre has given special grants to all State governments that have made a request for it," Digvijay Singh told reporters here.

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajnath Singh has reaffirmed that Nitish Kumar is with the National Democratic Party (NDA) and that he very well knows which alliance will give Bihar that much required "Special Status".

Earlier in the day, Kumar said that he would support that government which gives 'Special Status' to Bihar. He also went on to say that Bihar will be the deciding factor post polls, when the election results will be out.

Speaking at a book release function here, Kumar said that the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, had so far refused to give Bihar a 'Special Status'.

He also said that the option of who will become the Prime Minister and who will be made Prime Minister is still open. (ANI)
