For unskilled workers the wages has been raised from 50 to Rs 70 per day and for semi-skilled labourers the new wages will be Rs 80, which earlier was Rs 60. For skilled workers the revised wages per day is Rs 90 and Rs 100 for highly skilled instead of the earlier Rs 70 and 80 respectively.
State Labour and Employment Minister, Jayanarayan Mishra, told that the new wage structure will be applicable to all 1,42,76,439 workers including 95,89,269 in all organised sectors. He further mentioned that the revision is necessary in every five years; however, it?s the duty of minimum wage advisory committee to hike the wages keeping in mind the market price and inflation.
The state government discussed the revision of minimum wages in the State Assembly on November last year. It took four months to pronounce and implement the new structure. The revised wages is seen by many as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's gift to the workers on International Labour Day.
