Murder of engineering student in Aligarh Muslim University

Sep 17: Last night passed in violence and tension in Aligarh Muslim University due to the murder of a student of the university near his hostel by unknown persons.

Mazhar Naeem, an engineering student was attacked with sharp-edged weapon on his head and neck last night on a deserted lane near the sports complex of the university. He was rushed to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College where the doctors declared him dead.

Naeem was from Meerut and was staying in the university hostel ‘Aftab’ after he got admitted to the engineering degree course. Upset by the murder of the fellow student on the very campus, hundreds of students became violent and attacked the residence of Vice-Chancellor of the university, Mr. P K Abdul Aziz. Police told that vice- chancellor was not present at the house when the incident took place.

The agitated students also targeted the AMU staff club and attacked the proctor office damaging the property of the university.

Reason behind the murder has not been ascertained and investigation is going on told the spokes person of the university. Police have denied any political motive behind the murder and termed the murder in the nature of petty crime. Murderers have not been identified.

To avoid any uncontrollable situation in the university Rapid Action Force and PAC personnel have been deployed in the university premises. Now the situation is under control. Police prevented all the violence by the students till late morning.
