Thiruvananthapuram, April 20 (IANS) Malayalam director Sunil's film on child beggars 'Kathaparayum Theruvoram' (Street Symphony), which boasts of starring as many as 500 kids, is finally set to release May 1, nearly six years after its shoot was completed.

'The film's shooting was over in 2003 and since it was taken on a wide canvas and as a commercial film, finances were a problem and so it got delayed. But nevertheless, the theme of the film is topical and has a strong message,' Sunil said at a press conference here Monday.

The filmmaker, who has earlier made movies like 'Manathe Kottaram' and 'Vridhanmare Sookshikuka', said he hit upon the idea when he met a child beggar many years ago during a train journey.

'I asked the boy some details like where he hails from and so on. But the boy appeared afraid and ran away from me. I followed him and noticed an old man seated near the exit of the train compartment. Soon the train came to a halt and I saw a number of children alight with the old man. I realised that there was a mafia behind this and I decided to do a film,' said Sunil.

Apart from the large number of children, 'Kathaparayum Theruvoram' also stars well-known Malayalam actors Kalabhavan Mani and Padmapriya. Another highlight of the film is its music.

The soundtrack has six songs composed by classical music exponent Ramesh Narayanan and rendered by kids.

'I have done quite a number of film songs, but this is something that I hold very dear because it has a mix of Hindustani (classical) and ordinary music. All the songs are sung by children in the age group of 13 to 15,' said Narayanan, a disciple of noted singer Pandit Jasraj.

'Initially I felt it would have lost its relevance because it was six years back that I did the music. But when I hear it again I am delighted that it has not lost anything and it vibes well with the film,' the musician added.

Noted writer Punathil Kunhabdullah, who features in the film, said the movie sends out a strong message and should be seen by the maximum number of people.

Pandit Jasraj's wife Madhura was also present at the press meet and said 'Kathaparayum Theruvoram' tells the world how children should be taken care.

'Parents have a huge responsibility to nurture their children and when that does not happen, children get distracted. This is an excellent and beautiful film,' said Madhura Jasraj.
