Shillong, April 17 (ANI): A large number of people from the northeastern region of the country converged at the 10th international trade fair held recently in Shillong.

The annual trade fair, themed 'connecting northeast with the rest of the countries', was a major success, as traders from different parts of the world participated and showcased their products.

People thronged the venue to watch the world-class products ranging from kitchen and other domestic appliances to toys and accessories.

The event offered visitors and local entrepreneurs an opportunity to interact and exchange ideas with international traders and further improve cultural and trade relations between northeast and the South East Asian nations.

"I really like that all the neighboring countries are meeting together. This is the opportunity for all of us who cannot afford to go abroad to do our shopping and marketing. I'm very happy to get this opportunity to see products from Thailand and other countries," said Freedy, local visitor in Shillong

"Its very nice, it improves the economy of the state. Its nice to have these trade fairs as you get to see things from other places and you get to buy things that you have only heard or seen in pictures. And you get it first hand over here. You get to meet people from other countries as well," said Geena, another visitor.

Traders from several South East Asian countries including Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines as well as Kenya, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Egypt showcased a fabulous range of products at various stalls at the 10-day long fair.

Overwhelmed by the response, the participants were looking forward to visiting northeast again in the coming years.

Shillong, popularly known as the 'Scotland of the East', has emerged as a trading hub which is able to provide employment to the local people.

Trade and commerce have considerably increased in the last few years with many prominent companies coming to the state in an effort to expand their network. By D. Henpilen (ANI)
