The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate LK Advani slamming Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s statement that India is in more danger from people inside than outside terrorist, demanded an apology, which he termed was an attack on BJP.
Speaking to scribes after ending a two-day campaign in the communist’s stronghold Kerala this morning, Advani said that the Congress president’s statement in Jharkhand few days ago shocked him.
Though she did not mention any names, the sum and substance in it was clear, Advani told reporters and added: ‘My party isn’t a threat to our nation’s security and the statement is an irresponsible one.’
It is to mention here that the Congress president had made a statement during a rally in Khuti, Jharkhand, where she said: “The country should be careful of those who wear a mask of patriotism and want to break the country from inside. India faces a threat not only from terrorists but also from parties like these.”
Advani also accused Sonia Gandhi of being ignorant of her own party traditions. He was referring to former prime ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and Lal Bahadur Shastri, who had praised the role of the Jan Sangh and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on many occasions.
“After the war, in 1963, Nehru asked the RSS to send a contingent for the Republic Day parade. Now we have a Congress president who does not even know the history of her party.”
Answering a question on the prospect of the Third Front, the BJP prime ministerial candidate said that ‘they have neither a common platform nor a common leader. And it is clear that none other than the Congress or the BJP will rule New Delhi.’
Again reiterating his earlier remark that Manmohan Singh as the “weakest” prime minister, Advani said, ‘Manmohan Singh has devalued the prime minister office as there can be no executive superior to the post.
