Shimla, April 5 (IANS) Over 40 wooden houses were gutted in a major fire that broke out in a Himachal Pradesh village, officials said Sunday. No one was injured in the accident.
The fire broke out at Brua village in Kinnaur district, some 300 km from the state capital. The fire has rendered hundred of people, including women and children, homeless in the freezing cold. The minimum temperature in the village is below the freezing point.
'The fire destroyed more than 40 houses in the village. It was brought under control this (Sunday) morning after 10 hours of struggle,' Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Basu told IANS by phone. She said an estimated Rs.3 crore (Rs.30 million) worth of property was destroyed in the fire.
Legislator Tejwant Singh Negi, who rescued the villagers, said the administration had provided relief material to the fire victims.
'The victims have been shifted to nearby relief camps. Ration, woollens and necessary household items were provided to the victims by the administration,' he said.
