RGV’s Aag: not to say of flames even sparks were not seen

New Delhi, Mon, 03 Sep 2007 NI Wire

Sep 03: Oh!!! So much hype, so much marketing, promos but all end in silence and much criticism as Ram Gopal Varma ki Aag fails to leave a mark on audience’ mind. Box office collection in the first four days proves that it is a crushing flop this year. Film critics blamed the script and also a complete failure in story telling sequence after adopting a classic concept of 1975 released Sholay .

Audience who came to theatre to relate something of this movie with Sholay certainly fail to find a single point that can truly take you back to some memorable character. Despite having a heavy star-cast with likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgan, Sushmita Sen the film plants only a bad effort in their career.

As per the director of the film who says the film is not a remake of ‘Sholay’ the film certainly stands no where near Sholay . It seems the director from the beginning was sure for its failure. Aag is nothing but a complete failure of script, direction. Not a single dialogue makes any impression on mind as was the case with the older one.

Well in acting Bachchan will remain for ever in a special pose in our Hindi cinema but not with this character as the script doesn’t support his role. It is just another Amitabh Bachchan with no significance as Gabbar Singh of Sholay. Other characters better not to mention as all of them squashed with director’s attempt of mixing everything like Satya, Rangeella, Sarkar and then trying to portray Sholay.

Ram Gopal Varma known for gangster movies like Satya and Company this time acts up his own ability. Well, remake certainly brings challenge and hence the director has to think a lot before daring another attempt.

A classic like Sholay that still runs successfully in theatres after three decades of its release attests all for being a blockbuster. But contrary Aag falls flat in the opening week in its attempt of making a mockery of Sholay.

Earlier in the year the remake of ‘Don’ by director Farahan Akhtar also had generated much interest among audience and it somehow managed a good response as it didn’t try to pamper much in the script also with some nice sound tracks. Unlike Don’s music, Aag also fails on this front with some dull & repeated notes.

If you have not seen the movie and you are a great fan of the old classic as I guess we all are then better try some other in theatre like the one Hey Baby with some light hearted comedy otherwise it would be a torturing attempt.

I was a big fan of RGV. In fact I used to watch only his movies in theatres and those which will appeal me from inside. However, after watching AAG, I realized that I was doing a mistake, I cannot believe that RGV has directed this film. What has happened to you Mr. RGV. You are losing your touch. At least after the movie was over, you should have not taken credit as directed by RGV. You have disappointed me. There cannot be a remake of SHOLAY......It will remain a classic, not to be touched and spoilt, like this. I am not going to watch your Darling, but hope you at least do well and comeback to your form.

AAG and Sholay the meaning is same, but after seeing the movie I felt shame. Where is the movie Sholay which is ruling till now in the theatres and where is the AAG which is begging for hit. Hence "old is gold".
