Mumbai, Apr 1 (ANI): Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has launched a film to promote the voter awareness campaign.

An initiative of the Ahmedabad-based non-political group 'Association for Democratic Reforms' (ADR), the campaign is aimed at creating awareness on the power of the vote among a large youth population that remains disillusioned and does not participate in the election process.

The campaign theme "Sacche ko chune, acche ko chune" also carries the message to a vast majority of the common people that they should be fully informed of the antecedents of the person they vote for.

"We are trying to tell the voters not only to cast their vote, but everyone should realise the importance of their vote. The voters can take the information of the candidates who are in their constituency. They should take information of candidates educational qualifications, if they have any criminal cases against them or not, or any other relevant information. The voters should then evaluate the information and only then cast their vote," said Khan.

An advertisement campaign mounted by the Election Commission, "Pappu can't Vote", parodying a popular catchy film song, that makes a pun on the trendy youth who abstains from voting, has caught the imagination of the country.

India has carried out various poll reforms to elicit as much information on the candidates standing for election, barring those convicted beyond two years and issuing Voter Identity Cards to check bogus voting. (ANI)
