Mumbai, March 25 (IANS) A key index of the Indian equities markets Wednesday closed around the day's high on the back of strong buying of realty and energy stocks.
The 30-scrip Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) sensitive index (Sensex), ended trade 2.47 percent higher than its previous close with similar gains being seen in other major market indices.
The Sensex, which opened at 9,442.3 points, closed at 9,704.52 points (provisional), gaining 2.47 percent or 233.48 points from its previous close.
It touched an intra-day high of 9,706.47 points about 30 minutes before the closing bell.
Similarly, the S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) gained 1.88 percent from its last close to shut shop at 2,994.05 points.
The BSE midcap index ended 0.33 percent higher, while the BSE smallcap index was up 0.32 percent.
